Aloo Paratha Recipe From India

Aloo Paratha is a popular North Indian dish that is made with a whole wheat flatbread stuffed with a spiced potato filling. Here is a recipe for Aloo Paratha:

Ingredients for Dough:

  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Water as needed

Ingredients for Potato Filling:

  • 4 medium-sized potatoes, boiled and mashed
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 green chili, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh coriander, chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Ghee or oil for cooking

Instructions:

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add water and knead the dough until it becomes soft and pliable. Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the boiled and mashed potatoes, chopped onion, chopped green chili, chopped coriander, cumin powder, coriander powder, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt.
  3. Divide the dough into equal-sized balls and roll them into small circles. Place a spoonful of the potato mixture in the center of each circle.
  4. Bring the edges of the dough circle towards the center and seal the potato mixture inside the dough. Flatten the stuffed dough ball gently with your hands.
  5. Roll out the stuffed dough ball into a circle of about 6-7 inches in diameter, dusting with flour if necessary.
  6. Heat a griddle or non-stick pan over medium-high heat. Place the rolled-out paratha on the hot pan and cook for about 1 minute on each side.
  7. Spread some ghee or oil on the surface of the paratha and flip it over. Spread some more ghee or oil on the other side and cook until both sides are golden brown.
  8. Repeat the same process with the remaining dough balls and potato filling.
  9. Serve the hot Aloo Parathas with raita, pickle, or any other accompaniments of your choice.

Aloo Paratha is a delicious and filling dish that can be enjoyed for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. It's a popular Indian street food and can also be made at home with ease.
